My daughter loves quality time with me. When my son used to nap we would spend mom and me time together. It was my time when I was deliberate about giving her all of my attention. Throughout the last few weeks he has given up naps completely and she and I have had to find our mom and me time when we can. Are you trying to find time to invest in your daughter? Maybe your son needs more quality time. Don’t miss these 10 mom & me ideas.
Coloring – Coloring isn’t just for small children anymore. With all of the different adult coloring pages on Pinterest it will be hard to run out of something to color. R and I print out a coloring sheet and some colored pencils and have a great time talking and coloring. This time with her gives us the chance to talk and laugh together or just be quiet together.
Puzzles – Building puzzles together can be a great way to spend quality time. If you are worried about clean up make sure to build your puzzle on a cookie sheet. After you are finished building for the day simply put the cookie sheet up until the next chance you have to work on it.
Board Games – Games like The Game of Life are a lot of fun to spend time together playing. Not only are you spending quality time together but you can have fun or educational conversations. We like to name our babies in the game.
Ice Cream – Whether you go out or stay in, ice cream is a really fun way to spend some time together. There is just something about sitting down with an ice cream cone and giggling together.
Online Games – R and I love to play on the Neopets site together. Find something fun that your child likes to play online and join them. Talk about why they enjoy it and find something to laugh about.
Video Games – Some will say that video games aren’t quality time. However, for my little guy time spent gaming together is quality time. If I am completely engaged in his game with him then I have made his day. Bonus points if you help unlock a level your child is struggling with.
Imaginary Play – This can be a simple as building legos together or as complex as an imagination adventure together in the backyard. We love to head in to the back yard and I will ask, “Who are we? Where are we going? What kind of adventure are we having?” I have been a fairy on a mission to conquer the candy cane man in the dessert. It’s really fun to stay in character as whatever you pick and have a fun imagination adventure.
Dolls, Hair, Nails… – Pretty much anything that screams girly can be a great way to spend some quality time. My daughter loves to have her nails painted. We love to laugh and talk as we do this.
Mad Libs – If you want an easy way to get the giggles started don’t miss this! These are so fun and we have come up with some truly hilarious stories using these in the past.
Baking/Cooking – My daughter and I love to bake and cook together. She really likes making dinner with me. You can keep this as simple or as complicated as you want. Not only are you spending quality time with your child, you are teaching them a skill that will help them in their future.
I think the most important thing is to find something where you have to be engaged in what matters to your child. It’s not always about what you are doing but the fact that you are making time for your child.
