I recently joined as a Netflix DVD Director (Basically someone who thinks Netflix DVD is awesome) and I received my monthly email. They were talking about an amazing giveaway they are running. I’ll tell you more about that in a minute. The entry for that giveaway was to list out 5 movies you would want to get stranded with. It got me thinking a bit about how moms feel a little stranded on rainy Summer days. That’s why I decided to share these book inspired Summer movie ideas.
5 Book Inspired Summer Movie Ideas
I love to get the kids reading during the Summer time. There’s just something about getting lost in a good book. I have found that my two love to read even more if they know that there’s a movie out about the book. I have picked 5 movies that stayed close to the book or did a great interpretation of the heart of the story. These are all great reads and I am sure your kids will have a lot of fun reading them and then watching the movie.
If you don’t have the movie, it’s definitely time to sign up for DVD Netflix as they have a huge variety of dvd’s or blu-rays you can rent for one monthly fee!
My son is a huge fan of all of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books. When he saw that Dog Days was on the DVD Netflix available list he got so excited. He had a lot of fun reading this book and was so excited to see it come to life on the screen. We also had a chance to have some fantastic conversations about friendship as Greg is not always the best friend. I highly recommend it if you want a full on silly movie. My kids laughed too hard.
Harry Potter will always be a favorite in this house. We devoured the entire series as a family last year and finished each movie as we finished the book. If you want a fun series to go through as a read aloud or to have your child read alone you won’t want to miss this. This is also a great lead up to a family trip to Universal Orlando. Be ready for some differences between the movies and the book though. They are definitely there.
Do you have a reading who loves all things fantasy? Did you know there is a book series for How to Train Your Dragon. This is actually on my son’s library list for the coming week. We saw the movie without knowing about the series. We are looking forward to heading into the book version and seeing how they compare.
The movie Mary Poppins is iconic and there will be a new version coming out soon. However, I will always be a fan of the book. It’s such a different experience. We went through the audio book on a road trip and absolutely loved the variations in the book that weren’t in the movie. I highly recommend this one if you are thinking about a trip to Disney or just want some pixie dust at home.
This was one of my all time favorite movies when I was younger. I just loved the spunk of this girl and her huge appetite for books. I will admit we haven’t read the book yet but it’s on our Summer Reading list. I can’t wait to see if the book is a lot of the same fun or if there are more funny moments the movie didn’t highlight.
What would your Summer reading movies be? Leave me a comment and let me know.
