“Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?”
As Christmas approaches quickly my heart is troubled. I know that while there are some who will be able to shop in an overabundance there are also those won’t shop at all. I understand. This year we budgeted for Christmas but normally we are crying out for help. We used to worry all the time about Christmas. How will we give a gift that each person will appreciate?
In that time God called us in the midst of our need and asked me the question in the scripture above. He said, “Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?” God was meeting me where I was. He knew I didn’t have much but worrying would not solve the problem. It was wasted energy. He did not change my circumstances. He did change the way I viewed them. I was so caught up in buying the best gifts that I missed Him in Christmas. With a change of perspective God changed my heart.
Instead of striving for the most expensive gifts we used our creativity and gave gifts of heart instead of gifts of obligation. Take a moment and focus on God instead of your circumstance and you will see that what you worry about can be made smaller.
I want to encourage you to put things in perspective this Christmas. You could be bearing the burden of the little boy in this song.
