Can you believe Summer is coming to an end so soon? We homeschool year round so we are back it already. I spent some time yesterday reorganizing my homeschool. The bookshelf I was using just wasn’t working anymore. It was always cluttered and took up too much of my kitchen. I decided it was time to update my homeschool organization system. I simplified a lot and I would love to share it with you in case it will help you get your homeschool more organized.
My Homeschool Organization System
I think it is important to point out that this is our system but you may find something that works better for you. I don’t share this as a final way to organize. Instead, this is just how we do it and maybe you can glean an idea or two from it.
I wanted to decrease the clutter and clear out an old cabinet so I consolidated my fabric stash to free up a few of my buckets.
In the boxes on the right of the cabinet I filled workboxes for each of the kids. The one above is my son’s box. It has construction paper, notebook paper, scissors, pencils, pens, a dictionary, Teaching Textbooks, composition notebooks, an abacus, and any of his school work for the coming week.
In my daughter’s box I have a lot of the same basic supplies as well as a thesaurus, Institute for Excellence in Writing discs, Geography notebook, Writing Notebook, Teaching Textbooks, and a few of her assignments for the coming week.
This school year we will be using a lot of board games for learning. Some of these will be printables like the Parts of Speech Printable game pictured above. In the larger containers, I have the folders like the one above. I have put the game and all of the pieces in the folder. For pieces, I will probably add a Ziploc bag. I just didn’t have one on hand when I put the box together.
Each of these will be in a labeled folder in the large bin for the kids to pull out and use when they need or want them.
The other large bin you see pictured is for school books that I will use in the school year but I am not using yet. This is specific to the school year. Anything I know I won’t use for the first semester is boxed up and out of the way.
How do you organize your homeschool? Would bins like this work in your house?
