We were given 4 tickets to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. However, this post and all opinions included were not influenced by this post.
Every time we plan for our Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party I have a well written calendar. I break out the entire schedule and have everything planned to the minute. Don’t get me wrong. We have fun, but I am there for certain experiences and I keep things moving to get us those experiences. Imagine my surprise when I realized I was heading to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party on a sold out night.
Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party on a Sold Out Night
I had to re-evaluate a lot of my expectations and change up my entire approach to the party in order to make sure we still had a great time. Let me share a few of the things we did to make our party enjoyable.
Stick to traditions.
One of our traditions at special parties in Disney is to pick up the party specific Sorcerer Mickey Card. We love the fact that this is a free memento from our time at the party that we can add to our card collection.
Do you have a tradition? Make it a priority and be willing to let non-traditions go.
If you want the Very Merry Sorcerer Mickey Card make sure to visit the fire station when you first enter the park. If you want to get just the party card, go to the cast member outside of the station. If you would like to add to your deck, go inside first for your sorcerer Mickey cards.
Enjoy great treats!
Whether you are beating the heat with a snow cone or warming up with a hot cocoa, you are sure to find a delicious treat you can enjoy at the party. I recommend checking out the map and finding all of the treat spots so you know which ones are on your route.
You can find the large inflatable candy canes or cast members like the ones above in order to find your treats.
Enjoy less crowded shows.
It can be incredibly tempting to visit the large castle shows. There is just something about the magic of the castle. That said, it will also be one of the more crowded places in the park. In fact, many will get there an hour before the show and sit waiting for the show. Instead of going to the large castle shows, head over to Tomorrowland and see my absolute favorite show in the party!
I love this show featuring Stitch as it is so much fun. As a parent, I love that I can get there 10 minutes before the show, get a great spot, and the kids can enjoy a really fun show. You will get the joy of the shows without the oversized crowds you would see near the castle.
Take advantage of shorter wait times.
Many of the rides will have wait times that are lower than a traditional park day. At our party, many of the mountains had no more than a 30-40 minute wait. Your meet and greets will have very long lines so this is a great time to ride the rides you’ve always avoided because of wait times.
For my daughter, this meant she was able to experience Space Mountain for the first time and she loved it!
Visit Club Tinsel
Are you looking for a fun way to let the kids burn off some energy? Take them over to Club Tinsel in Tomorrowland to enjoy dancing with a polar bear. It really is a magical experience kids are sure to enjoy.
Watch the parade in a new place.
Many people will try to get seats near the castle or on main street for the parade. Do yourself a favor and head over to Frontier Land. While you won’t watch the parade in front of the castle, you will still get a great view with half the wait time. In general, you can get there 30 minutes or less before the parade.
If you do want a spot near the castle or on main street plan to get there over an hour before the parade time to guarantee you get a spot where you can see the parade.
Ride the Jingle Cruise
This year was our first year riding Jingle Cruise but it was so worth it. The jokes had us laughing really hard and the kids really enjoyed the change of riding it in the dark. This is also a great ride if you need to rest your feet and enjoy a treat.
Leaving the party.
With the price of party tickets, it can be tempting to want to stay until the last moment. While this can extend the magic, it also means that you will spend a lot longer trying to get back to your hotel or car. If you leave around 11:30-40 you are more likely to get to your car or your hotel a lot quicker and get some much-needed rest.
