If you have been following me on Facebook than you know that I have been working on a garden this year. One of the projects I took on was this neat potato tower! I won’t take credit for this idea. I actually found the idea on Pinterest Here. I figured I would post and share some of the things we changed and some of the things we learned as we tried this project.
- It takes a lot of soil/peatmoss! – I used a mixture of soil and peatmoss because the soil is too heavy and it will squish the plants as they grow.
- Use Chicken wire – My aunt brought me chicken wire and we used it instead. As you can see the plants are climbing out quite well.
- Use pine straw – We found that using pine straw was great because it was easier to pack around the edges. It was also inexpensive at my favorite farm and garden store. (If you are local, Doty’s in Winter Haven!)
- PVC Pipe – We drilled holes every 12 inches down a pvc pipe. As we built our tower we built around this. This was a great way to know how deep each layer should be and I water it by pouring water down the pipe.
